Easy Homemade Bubble Bath

A nice warm bath is a soothing experience anytime. If you add the bubble component, it becomes a luxurious bath.

When you create a homemade bubble bath, it’s doubly wonderful because you can relieve your achy muscles and tired mind at the same time. This post offers four recipes varying only in the essential oils used. Once you see how easy it is, you can add your own ingredients depending on the fragrances you enjoy and the therapies you need.

An added huge benefit to making your own bubble bath is that you aren’t adding a ton of chemicals that may not be good for you. Just think, when you submerge your tired body and let each fragrant bubble caress your skin, you will enjoy a delightful and healthy bubble bath.

Homemade bubble bath for relaxing and clearing the mind

Ingredients:

4 cups Water

1 Castile Soap (bar)

1/4 cup Glycerin

1 1/4 tsp Peppermint Essential Oil

1 1/4 tsp Rosemary Essential Oil

Instructions:

Grate the soap into the water and heat over water until the soap melts. In order to create bubble bath, the soap must be liquefied. (Castile soap will melt at room temperature, but adding heat speeds up the process.) Once the soap melts, add the glycerin and fragrance, pour into bottle and you have created your own bubble bath.

This recipe makes a relatively small batch and that’s good in that it gives you the opportunity to experiment with other fragrances and oils to see which combinations you like the best.

Homemade bubble bath to relax muscles and relieve arthritis pain

Follow the recipe above, but replace peppermint oil with chamomile essential oil.
Essential oils to use:

1 1/4 tsp Roman Chamomile

1 1/4 tsp Rosemary

Homemade bubble bath for total stress relief

Follow recipe #1 replacing the oils with:

2 ½ tsp lavender essential oil.

Homemade bubble bath for insomnia

Follow recipe #1 replacing the oils with:

2 ½ tsp Clary sage essential oil.

It is so cool to have base recipes that you can use over and over again. You can change the function of the bubble bath by simply substituting ingredients. You can increase the bubbles by adding a bit more glycerin. The oils can be substituted with other fragrances or for different therapies.

Now go have fun and relax.

    1. Hi Shani,

      Thank you for your question.

One study recommends using bars of glycerin soap within 45 days from date of manufacture to maintain high level chemical properties. After 45 days, Castile bar soap will not be “bad.” However, it may change chemically. The study I mentioned above indicated that over a 6 month period, the alkali levels were reduced and the NaCl (salt) levels increased significantly in bars of Castile soap after 6 months. However, the total fatty acids actually increased.

Based on the above study of bar Castile soap and other studies of liquid Castile soap, this bubble bath should be fine to use for up to at least one year.

      Hope this helps.
