There is a close association between laughter and health. The more you laugh the better for your health. Countless studies have been done proving this point. This post will give you a short look at why it’s an important component to a healthy happy goddess.
A Story
Long before Lori, my daughter became a computer geek, she was selling energy saving lighting for a company located here in the Seattle area. One day while on a quest for new customers, she decided to visit a mortuary to see if they would be interested in her product line.
As she enters the mortuary, she notices a grieving woman sitting in a chair just inside the entry. Lori smiles at the women as she passes her on the way into the mortician’s office.
Lori introduces herself to the mortician and then says, “Sir, I’m here regarding your dearly departed light bulbs.”
The mortician, a stoic sad looking man starts to laugh and so does the grieving woman sitting outside his office.
Lori didn’t realize it, but she did a lot of good that day for that grieving woman and the mortician. She helped to improve their health.
How your body responds to laughter
When you laugh:
- Your immune system gets a boost
- Your blood vessels function is improved increasing cardiovascular health
- Endorphins (the feel-good hormones) are released
- Stress is relieved for up to 45 minutes after a good laugh
How your mind responds to laughter
When you laugh:
- You can’t be sad, depressed or angry at the same time.
- It’s easier to focus your mind.
- Anxiety and stress disappear.
- You get a mini vacation from problems.
What to do when you can’t find anything funny
This is a tough question to answer because the answer might be different for each person.
Start by trying to remember the things that made you laugh in the past. Was it watching the comedic acts of a group of kittens or puppies at play? Was it in watching children at play or performing for you? Was it a funny movie or joke? Was it a really funny book? Was it that wise cracking friend that just never could realize just how serious life has to be? You could give him or her a lesson or two now couldn’t you?
Whatever it was that you found funny, head back to it. Remember not to sweat the small stuff and it is all small stuff. Don’t take yourself so seriously. Learn to laugh at the stupid things you do. I do lots of stupid things so I always have material for a good laugh.
Conclusion
Now that you know how laughter and health relate, add laughter to your life; lots and lots of laughter. It will make your life lots more fun and attract friends like nothing else imaginable except maybe copious amounts of money. Let’s face it, who wants to hang around with gloom and doom.
In addition to helping yourself, you will also be helping the people around you. When they get in laugh mode, they’re benefiting both physically and mentally. Now isn’t that an awesome gift to give someone?
Now it’s your turn. Tell us a true really funny story. Something that makes you laugh every time you think about it or tell it to your friends.
Now go have fun and relax.
