Did you know that if you smile, it’s good for your skin? Yup, it’s a scientific fact. There are a number of reasons for this:
- A smile inhibits infection and reducing pain by stimulating your brain to release morphine-like substances.
- A smile reduces stress related hormones that increase heart rate and blood circulation. That’s ever so good for your skin.
- A smile, even a fake smile, is a mood booster.
Fake it
You might be thinking about those fake smiles. If they’re fake, how can they possibly help you have nice skin. Well, in psychological terms, this is called “facial feedback.” In other words, your facial expression gives feedback to your brain and your brain reacts accordingly. So, if you smile, your brain reads “happy” from your expression and sends all the goodies to your body. You know the ones, increased circulation, happy hormones and faster heartbeat.
Why Fake it?
Why not think the thoughts that bring a smile to your face naturally. You might think about someone you love or a funny event in your life. Watch a good comedy show or cartoon (funny one). Maybe baking cookies brings a smile to your face or visiting a friend (preferably one with a good sense of humor). Read a book of jokes.
You shouldn’t spend your valuable time watching the talking doom and gloom heads on television. They’re enough to put a frown on anyone’s face. Make visits to doom and gloom friends very short.
To make that smile even easier to master, try relaxing in a tub full of fragrant bath oil or bath salts and appreciate the goddess that soaks there. Read about that here. Try relaxation techniques to relieve stress. You will find some suggestions here.
Life’s too short
Life’s too short to be walking around with a frown, so smile when you’re with other people and smile when you’re by yourself. It’s a gift you can give to others that will cost you nothing. Your smile will make you radiant. It will attract people to you. And it will be good for your health both mentally and physically. It just doesn’t get much better than that.
So, the next time you feel like frowning at the world, think about that skin of yours that you want to keep in peak condition. Then smile, smile, smile.
Now go have fun and relax.
