Homemade perfume can be as exotic, heavy, or light as you wish. You can create perfumes with a luscious fragrance that can’t be found anywhere else. What could be more creative, more unique, or more fun?
The simplest perfumes are created by adding the petals of fragrant flowers to water. Here’s all you have to do:
- Place cheesecloth over a bowl large enough to hold two cups of water.
- Add 1 cup of your favorite blossoms (Carnations create a light spicy fragrance that is just wonderful. Roses are an old favorite.)
- Cover the blossoms with distilled water (make sure they are completely covered).
- Cover the bowl and let steep overnight
The next day remove the cheesecloth and squeeze the cheesecloth out well into the liquid.
Place the liquid in a stainless steel saucepan and simmer until only a teaspoon is left. Pour into small brown bottle. Place cap on bottle and your perfume has been created.
Fragrant essential oils such as sandalwood, frankincense, bergamot, cassis, and ylang ylang also make a wonderful homemade perfume either by themselves or combined. For a heavier fragrance, add a few drops of musk. Want to drive guys crazy, try making a perfume with a vanilla and/or cinnamon scent.
Now go relax and have fun.
